The line from Keyhaven to Meersgate was opened in 1880. It was an independant railway, and was eventually taken over by the Southern Railway.
The line fell under the Beeching axe in 1964, closing to freight traffic two years later. The Keyhaven Locomotive Trust was formed and managed to secure the line.
The line was officially reopened on 8th June, 1970. Since then the line has gone from strength to strength. Due to the short platforms on the line, and the fact we have an incredibly long line, we can operate a daily 4-train service, and partly due to the fact we operate the line more commercially than most railways, we can afford to do so.
